Born Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan to a Pashto-speaking Muslim household on January 7, 1967, in Jaipur, Rajasthan (NW India), Khan’s father, Jagirdar Khan, was from the Khajuriya hamlet close to the Tonk area and had a tyre company.

Khan’s mother, Begum Khan, was from the Tonk Hakim family. Irfan was a talented cricket player. He was chosen for the CK Nayudu Tournament while he was in his early 20s (a stepping stone to first-class cricket).

Due to a lack of cash, he was unable to attend the competition, so he decided to concentrate on acting. He received a scholarship in 1984 to study acting at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. For his contributions to the arts, he received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian accolade.

The iconic Indian actor made his screen debut in the Oscar-nominated Hindi film “Salaam Bombay!” and went on to feature in some of India’s most critically acclaimed films, like Life in a Metro, Madari, Pann Singh Tomar, and The Lunch Box. Irrfan Khan has given very good movies to Bollywood like Madari, Pann Singh Tomar, Life in a Metro, The Lunch Box, The Killer, thank you, Makbool, Piku, Hindi Medium, and The Lunch Box.

He received both a Filmfare Critics Award and the National Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Paan Singh Tomar in the renowned biographical sports film Paan Singh Tomar (2011). He received plaudits from fans and reviewers alike for his role in the 2013 romance The Lunchbox, which was nominated for a BAFTA Award.

Khan appeared in a number of movies, including The Warrior (2001), The Namesake (2006), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008), New York, I Love You (2009), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012), Jurassic World (2015), and Inferno (2016). As of 2017, his movies had brought in $3.643 billion at the global box office.
