Born Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan to a Pashto-speaking Muslim household on January 7, 1967, in Jaipur, Rajasthan (NW India), Khan’s father, Jagirdar Khan, was from the Khajuriya hamlet close to the Tonk area and had a tyre company.
Khan’s mother, Begum Khan, was from the Tonk Hakim family. Irfan was a talented cricket player. He was chosen for the CK Nayudu Tournament while he was in his early 20s (a stepping stone to first-class cricket).
Due to a lack of cash, he was unable to attend the competition, so he decided to concentrate on acting. He received a scholarship in 1984 to study acting at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. For his contributions to the arts, he received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian accolade.
The iconic Indian actor made his screen debut in the Oscar-nominated Hindi film “Salaam Bombay!” and went on to feature in some of India’s most critically acclaimed films, like Life in a Metro, Madari, Pann Singh Tomar, and The Lunch Box. Khan, who has a neuroendocrine tumor, was diagnosed in 2018. In 1995, Khan married Sutapa Sikdar. She is a Brahmin Hindu. She is a screenwriter, a dialogue writer, and a film producer. Among her well-known films are Khamoshi: The Musical (Dialogue Writer, 1996), Supari (Dialogue Writer, 2003), Kahaani (Dialogue Writer, 2003), Madaari (Producer, 2016), and Qarib-Qarib Single (Producer, 2017). Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020; thus, he is no longer with us, yet even now, many people look up to and are inspired by him.
