Mission Raniganj, starring Akshay Kumar, is today’s second-best pick, selling approximately 83,000 tickets at PVRInox and another 20,000 at Cinepolis. By Thursday night, Mission Raniganj will have sold roughly 1.75 lakh tickets, compared with 1.03 lakh sold during National Cinema Day. In fact, Mission Raniganj sold 29 times more tickets on Day 1 than were actually sold.
Mission Raniganj producers made an obvious error in choosing its debut date; it would have benefited immensely from opening earlier or on National Cinema Day (and taking advantage of holidays and incentives to reach more audiences). A more suitable premier date would have given Mission Raniganj more exposure among viewers.
