Today, we’ll talk about how many different kinds of film producers there are. As you move through different jobs on a film crew, you are likely to meet at least some of these people. This is true if you work with agencies or do creative projects on your own.
Also, it’s good to know what other manufacturers around the world are doing. You never know when you might need to work with someone on a task that isn’t your specialty. Here are some different kinds of producers:
Executive Producer
The executive producer is often the person who gives money to a short film project. The Film Fund gives the project manager an Executive Producer credit because we are helping to make the winning short film.
Producer
Producers can work for themselves as independent contractors or for a studio or production company as employees. They are involved in the manufacturing process from the beginning to the end, helping to coordinate, oversee, and control the resources (finances, people, and crafts).
That’s a very detailed description, which we like because making things involves a lot of different tasks. When making an independent movie, you have to wear more hats than you can handle. So, in general, a producer is more hands-on than an executive producer when it comes to getting things done.
Producer of lines
“Below the line” workers are those on the crew who are not producers, directors, screenwriters, or members of the main cast. The line producer is in charge of them. They can take care of budgets, help with staff management, and do a lot more. If you need someone to handle your entertainment budget, for example, a line producer is usually a good choice. On bigger sets, unit production managers (UPMs) are in charge of each department. On smaller sets, however, the line producer might be in charge of units like the art department.
Who’s in Charge?
The person in charge of managing the other producers is called the “managing producer.” In low-budget movies, this role doesn’t come up very often.
Associate Producer or Assistant Producer
Most of the time, the assistant or associate producer does nothing. This isn’t always the case, though, because some associate producers may be more involved or give money. Associate Producer credits aren’t very clear, and they can be given to people who are important to the production but aren’t actually working on it.
Co-producer
Co-producer is just another word for someone who works with the producer. They are often very involved in both pre-production and post-production. For example, Jawed, a co-producer, helped The Film Fund’s founder Rituraj with casting, finding locations, and even directing one of Rituraj’s short films when he was sick. Rituraj called Jawed his “co-producer,” even though Jawed was also a producer on the project and his credit said “Producer.” In this case, it’s just a matter of how to say it.
Those who make segments
Segment producers are present in TV shows like the morning news programmers. They make all the different “segments” of the programme, like cooking tips, local news, and specialised weather reports. Most of the time, it’s up to them to write about the articles that their Executive Producers, who get their news from places like CNN, give them in their production system.
Makes things up
The creative producer is in charge of coming up with ideas for an advertising campaign. They may work for design, digital marketing, or branding companies. Even though it’s not typical, this campaign could include videos. When agencies call their project managers “creative producers,” it might not be clear what they do.
