Create the right mentality

Try teaching yourself to see the bigger picture when reading the script you want to act in. To put it another way, try to cultivate the right mindset for realising the entire script story. This includes understanding what your role is about as well as how each character reacts and how you should feel while being in the story.

Recognise the character

After acting out a scene, you should react differently from how you normally would; it’s like putting on a mask of someone completely different and taking it off after the acting is done. Either you are born with this skill set or you can acquire it by repeatedly practising.

Consider how the character should respond to this situation. What was the right way for the character to think in such circumstances? How the character should appear while reacting, including their posture, feelings, voice tones, and any unique bodily movements or routines in a particular circumstance.

In addition, you should consider the character’s overall personality because, barring a few exceptions, the character may not have a particularly complex personality. If this is the case, you should practise acting as yourself. Many well-known actors and actresses use this technique, including Julia Roberts.

Make an effort to embody the part

This is a crucial phase to pay attention to while playing a character. After realising and thoroughly comprehending the character’s position from the previous point mentioned above, you should act as though you are the character.

Pay attention to your posture and gesture

By concentrating on your character’s gestures and posture, you should be able to make your acting seem more realistic to the audience. To do this, try getting lost in the story you are playing by developing the character’s fears and/or other feelings. Going that far into the character’s head should help you advance your acting abilities over time.

Linking facial expressions to emotions

Your audience must be shown the appropriate feelings and emotions through your facial expressions. When performing in front of a camera, you shouldn’t overdo it, especially if the shot is a close-up. If your performance is dramatic, you should be extremely expressive and project your voice.
